The Technology, the Environment, and the Future of Europe (TEFE) Initiative aims to reboot and foreground the study of European politics in the Anthropocene. It is devoted to the multidisciplinary, intersectional study of technology and the environment and its profound effects now and well into the future on Europe, both in the domestic and international spheres.

TEFE Visiting Fellowships (For Faculty and Non-Academic Writers)

TEFE Fellows at Remarque have time to pursue their own research while also contributing to (and drawing on) the intellectual and public-facing operations of the Institute. Essential to the TEFE Initiative is the establishment of a vibrant intellectual space in which each semester’s cohort of scholars can work both alone and together, building on their distinctive disciplines and shared interests. Moreover, fellows will curate together an invited speakers’ and work-in-progress discussion series, a podcast, and an annual conference.

Visiting Fellows receive an office at Remarque and visiting scholar status to use NYU’s libraries, databases, facilities, and privileges. Visiting fellows receive a monthly stipend, currently $4500. Visiting fellows also receive housing support, depending on availability: either (a) a large studio or one-bedroom apartment (from among Remarque’s apartments) free of charge, or else (b) an equivalent housing stipend of $2500 per month.

The application deadline for the 2024/2025 academic year TEFE Visiting Fellowships is December 15, 2023. Interviews may be conducted over the winter break, and offers will be made in mid-January.

TEFE Graduate Fellowships (For PhD Students)

TEFE Graduate Fellowships are open to both NYU and non-NYU applicants.

Graduate Fellows receive a stipend of $4750 for each of the four months they are in residence and, where necessary, visa support. Fellows are expected to be in residence throughout the semester; to participate in all relevant Remarque events; and to take part in and contribute to the community the Institute seeks to foster.
